LIGON MEDIA PHOTO PRAISED IN SAC BIZ JOURNAL

Ed Goldman, writer for Sacramento Business Journal, praised Ligon Media (specifically, David Ligon), in his column today about photos. You can read the column here (and all the other places we’ve linked it in this blog).  We had the opportunity to take Ed’s headshot for his column, which you can see in our headshots gallery.  Actually, as of the writing of this blog, it is the button on our gallery page.  You can also see it at the top of his column, which in case you missed it, is linked...

TAG IT ON YOUTUBE

One of the areas on YouTube that seem to be most overlooked is the use of keywords, also called tags. Millions of people visit YouTube, and with so many people visiting it stands to reason there are millions of videos to choose from.  So how do you make sure yours is seen?  One of the ways is through the use of keywords. Keywords are the terms used to describe your video, or more specifically, what your video is about.  So what kinds of keywords should your choose? Find keywords that embody what your video entails.  If you have a cooking demonstration of how to hard boil an egg, terms such as “hard boiling eggs,” “egg demonstration,” and “egg timer settings” would be appropriate.  But if you are a Sacramento restaurant, also use terms that describe your restaurant such as “cooking eggs in Sacramento” and “Sacramento egg restaurant.” Do not use keywords that have nothing to do with your video though, such as “Angelina Jolie Showering.”  Sure it will increase the amount people who visit your video, but they won’t watch it.  Remember the more popular the keywords chosen, the more competition your video will have for...

SPEAKING TO STUDENTS AND TAKING PICTURES

On Thursday, March 28, I had the pleasure of speaking to some of the students at DDSO (Developmental Disabilities Service Organization) about photography.  The school, located on St. Mark’s Way in Sacramento, has an arts program where students learn such skills as photography, video & audio production and marketing (and make money doing it), as part of its DDSO Employment Plus program.  Additionally the program provides employment opportunities to students in landscaping, clerical and aid positions. After speaking to the students and answering their questions (much tougher than any questions I could’ve thought of), we scouted out locations and I was able to give them a few photography tips, such as why you might want to still use a flash outside.  Afterwards, I did a photo shoot with one of their instructors in the arts programs and local actress, Eliza Webb.  Here are a few of the photos from that...

PHOTO SHOOT COMING UP

We had the opportunity yesterday afternoon to do a site visit at a client’s whose brochure we’ll be shooting the photographs for in a few weeks. It was a beautiful location in El Dorado Hills with lots of cool features and some of the largest coy we’ve ever seen.  It’ll be our first time shooting coy, but we’ve taken thousands of photographs of...

Revisit the Sacramento Hospice Consortium PSA

Ed Goldman writer for the Sacramento Business Journal called the PSA we produced for the Sacramento Hospice Consortium “one of the most heart-churning pieces … I’ve seen.” It’s great when our work gets noticed. We are very proud of the quality of the PSA. When we originally met with the Hospice Consortium we stressed the importance of a professional looking PSA with good lighting, a film look and professional actors. The previous PSA they had produced some years before was shot on video and used volunteers as actors, and although a noble effort, it missed the emotional appeal. We shot the PSA on the RED ONE camera, which although digital, has a great film quality. Since we didn’t want all our shots to be static, we threw the camera on a dolly in a couple of instances and even in the back of a truck and tracked an actor on a bike. This PSA was shot over 2 days (plus a few more hours for the bike shot and voice over) where the crew ranged from 3 to 6 people depending on the complexity of the set-up. The crew were great and all the actors we used were...
